Wapping, London Borough Of Tower Hamlets
St George aimed to gain consent for 1,800 homes on the former News International site in Wapping.
This large and iconic former print works, which included a Grade II listed building, was surrounded by residential property and was within the politically complex London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Residents, heritage campaigners and local politicians all needed to be persuaded that St George could deliver a scheme that would address their concerns.
Faced with this challenge, we organised an extensive programme of stakeholder engagement on behalf of St George. This included site tours of the former News of the World and Sun offices, visits to the listed buildings and the establishing of a consultative forum to allow local residents to shape the final plans.
Local politicians were briefed at every stage and, as a result of our thorough approach, the hybrid planning application received unanimous approval by the council’s planning committee.
